Radiation Therapy of Carcinoma of the Penis

Abstract
"Carcinoma of the penis is rare and is usually associated with failure to keep the prepuce free of smegma in the uncircumcised male. Herein, the author describes 5 cases of squamous cell carcinoma of the penis, who have been treated successfully at the Presbyterian Medical Center, Taegu, Korea by. irradiation immediately after circumcision and biopsy. 1. Carcinoma of the penis is usually associated with uncircumcised male. All 5 cases are uncircumcised males, and 4 of them have never had prepuce retracted at all since birth. 2. Circumcision is the most important first step toward irradiation therapy. along with birth. of the lesion. 3. Irradiation therapy is recommended to all primary lesions of rather early selected cases, and in case of failure through this therapy, surgery still can be performed successfully. 4. Lymph node metastasis confirmed by biopsy has to be managed individually: surgery or irradiation or combined treatment."
